Ulsus Equine Digestive Support - Peak Performance - 3 lbs Studies at the University of Florida show that as a horse exercises, the stomach becomes compressed and this allows acid from the glandular (acid producing) area to reach the non-glandular (non-acid producing) areas causing ulcers. The longer that the horse exercises, the longer this area of the stomach is exposed to these acids. As many as 92% of all race horses and 67% of endurance horses show signs of ulcers. Ulcers can be caused by horses that:
- Do not have a constant access to pasture.
- Have a lowered hay intake.
- Are under any physical or psychological stress.
- Have become stall bound.
- Are fed processed feeds instead of whole grains.
- Are using NSAIDS and/or corticosteroids.
Symptoms that your horse may have ulcers include:
- Teeth grinding
- Weight loss
- Poor coat
- Bad attitude
- Decreased performance
Ulsus is a concentrated formula to assist in slowing the production of stomach acids and for healing ulcers. Ulsus contains DGL (Deglycyrrhizunated Licorice) which coats the stomach with a thick, sticky mucus which can reduce acid and promote healing. Marshamallow root is also included for inflammation and has been known to promote the healing of ulcerations in the digestive system. MSM plays a role in helping horses that may be under stress and also has anti-inflammatory properties. Calcium and Magnesium are effective acid buffers which can soothe an already aggravated stomach lining. The amino acids Glutamic Acid and L- Histidine are important neurotransmitters for the central nervous system and contribute to a healthy gut. Vitamin E is one of the most important antioxidants to protect the body from free radicals which can damage healthy cells and also effective at soothing an acidic stomach. The B vitamin Niacin can help horses that have digestive tract problems due to stress caused by traveling, injury, or competition.
- Marshmallow root- decreases inflammation and has ulceration healing properties for the digestion system.
- DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice)- coats the stomach with thick, sticky mucus which reduces acid and promotes healing.
- Vitamin E- Antioxidant important for protecting the body from free radicals that destroy healthy cells.
- Calcium and Magnesium- Believed to have a buffering effect against stomach acid.
- Niacin- B vitamin that has been known to help horses that have digestive tract problems and have been under heavy stress such as training, shipping, or recent injury.
- MSM- A natural sulfur that has anti-inflammatory properties. May benefit horses that are under stress and have intestinal tract ulcers.
- L-Histidine- An essential amino acid that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in people. Histidine can convert to histamine, which is a major neurotransmitter throughout the nervous system. Histidine is also important for wound healing and for tissue growth and repair.
- Glutamic Acid- An amino acid that converts in L-Glutamine in the body. L-Glutamine is important in the transmitter functions of the central nervous system.
